Jerry went to be with his heavenly father on November 3, 2022, as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. Jerome (Jerry) Renner, 75, was born December 16, 1946, the son of Jack and Della Renner of Pingree, North Dakota. He graduated from Pingree High School and went on to acquire degrees in accounting and law from the University of North Dakota. He and Connie McDonald were married on December 27, 1967.
Jerry, a combat veteran, served a 12 mo12-monthnth tour of duty with the U.S. Army Artillery in Vietnam where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal as 1st Lieutenant.
The Renner family spent many years in Steele, North Dakota. Jerry ran his own law practice and served as the Kidder County States Attorney. In his free time, he served in many different roles, including 4H leader, ambulance crew member, as well as a member of the Lions Club and the American Legion for 46 years. He loved gardening and working out in the yard.
The family enjoyed many weekends at their cabin on Lake Isabel. They spent time swimming, fishing, water skiing, hunting and entertaining family and friends. He was known to many of his nieces and nephews as “Jer Bear” or “Generous Jerry” and all loved to give him a hard time whenever they had a chance.
Jerry didn’t like to stay in one place very long. They moved numerous times around North Dakota and Minnesota, finally settling in the Dalton and Alexandria area. During their retirement, Jerry and Connie loved to go RV-ing in the summer. They spent winters in Arizona where they enjoyed hiking, playing cards and visiting with friends from all over.
Jerry and his wife, Connie, deeply cared about helping others who are less fortunate. They did volunteer work for the Salvation Army, All Hands Disaster Relief, the Southside Presbyterian Church Kitchen in Tucson, as well as chairing numerous food drives. They also did volunteer work for 11 years at the Lake Region Pioneer Show in Dalton, Minnesota, where they were known as the “Painters”.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Connie, three sons, Aaron (Andrea), Jon (Hannah), Brad, two sisters, Diane and Judy, granddaughter Adelaide, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on November 11, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the Zion-Sarpsborg Free Lutheran Church in Dalton, Minnesota with lunch to follow.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Jack and Della Renner, and his granddaughter Chérie. Memorials can be made to the Lake Region Pioneer Threshing Association or the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice.
He will be buried at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, North Dakota. Interment will be determined at a later date.
