Jay Gullickson

Jay Edward Gullickson was born on August 5, 1939, in Mason City, Iowa, and passed away on September 3, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.

Jay grew up in Iowa graduating from Northwood High School and then enlisted in the United States Army serving his country from 1957 – 1960. After his service he returned to Northwood, Iowa and was united in marriage to Iva Leegaard on October 10, 1964. The couple lived in Northwood after their marriage for a short time and then followed Iva’s parents to Minnesota. Jay and Iva farmed in the Donnelly/Herman area where they started their family. Then in the late 1960’s bought a farm in Ben Wade Township which they still have.

Jay and Iva were blessed with almost 62 years of marriage. Throughout those years they enjoyed traveling on motorcycle throughout the United States, wintering in Mission Texas and for the past 50 years Jay enjoyed going for his annual fishing trip to Canada.

Jay will be remembered as a quiet man who didn’t want a lot of attention, he had a great sense of humor and would laugh and joke with the best of them. He is survived by his wife, Iva; son Jodean (Jill); daughters: Judi (Mark) Femrite, Jennifer (Tom) Hayes; seven grandchildren: Haley, Elizabeth, Derek, Ethan, Samuel, Nelsen, Joseph; eight great grandchildren Maddie, Nash, Braxton, Emersyn, George, Crue, Carter, Ava; brother, Arlen (Janet); sister, JoAnn Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Marcella Gullickson; brother, Robert; niece, Kim; father & mother-in-law, Ingvold &Thelma Leegaard; son-in-law, Rick; brother-in-laws: Jerry & Bill; sister-in-law, Sheryl.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday, September 10, 2026, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home with a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Lowry.  Memorials are preferred to Vivie Hospice.
