Janis Kathleen Schoeneck

Janis Kathleen Schoeneck, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025 in her hometown of Alexandria, Minnesota.

Janis was born May 13, 1938, in Alexandria, to Anton and Ethel (Buchholz) Tvrdik. She was baptized at the Forada Presbyterian Church, attended country school District #13, and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1956.

On June 20, 1959, Janis married the love of her life, Myron (Mike) Schoeneck, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple was blessed with two daughters.

Over the years Janis worked in several secretarial positions in the Alexandria area, including her best-loved role at the Alexandria Library. She gave generously of her time as a volunteer at the Senior Center, where she especially enjoyed helping seniors create handmade cards.

Janis found joy in tending to her garden and watching orioles and cardinals visit her feeders. She was a talented baker and arrived to every holiday celebration with her arms full of treats. Among everyone’s favorites were her pumpkin bars, pumpkin spice cookies, and pretty Jell-O salads. Janis also enjoyed traveling with Mike across the United States and collected bells from her adventures–treasures her family continued to add to over the years. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Janis was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her daughter, Kimberly Engle; and grandsons Brandon and Jeremy Hawkins. She is survived by daughter, Wendy Hawkins; son-in-law Dan Engle; grandchildren Jodi Mouratis and husband, Demetri, Cory Engle and wife, Hollie, Sara Hoffman, and husband, Isaac, Seth Engle and wife, Jennie; and great-grandchildren Yianni Mouratis, William, Silas and Autumn Engle, and Natalee, Connor, Alexander and Valerie Hoffman.

A visitation will be held Saturday, November 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
