JaNaye Ebert

November 11, 1959 — December 19, 2025

Alexandria

JaNaye Charlotte Ebert, 66 of Alexandria, was called home on Friday, December 19, 2025 peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. A public visitation will be held from 10:30AM – 12:00PM on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota, followed by a private family service.

JaNaye was born on November 11, 1959 to Walter and Cleo (Mohrbacher) Thom in Glencoe, Minnesota. One of eleven children, JaNaye grew up very social and athletic, participating in cheerleading and was also named Miss Glencoe.

After graduating with the class of 1979, JaNaye went on to attend school at St. Cloud State. While attending school in St. Cloud, JaNaye began dating Douglas Ebert. JaNaye went on to St. Mary’s for nursing and Doug continued with master classes at Minnesota State Moorhead. The couple was married on October 5, 1985 when they both had finished college. As newlyweds, Doug and JaNaye enjoyed camping, fishing, and attending hockey games.

After welcoming their two daughters, Sarah and Brianna, JaNaye and Doug moved their family from St. Cloud to Alexandria in October of 1994. JaNaye quickly went to work for the hospital, spending over thirty years there as a nurse before having to retire because of her health in December of 2024.

JaNaye loved spending time with her family – summer trips, camping, fishing, boating, and biking while her girls were young; and soaking in every moment with her six grandchildren – from baking and crafting to bedtime stories. JaNaye also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and delivering the perfect one-liners.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of forty years, Doug Ebert; those who lovingly referred to her as MJ – or Momma J – daughters: Sarah (Dustin) Jones, Brianna (Bobby) Bruski, and grandchildren: Haley, Emery, Nolan, Lena, Malakai, Vivian. She is also survived by her siblings: Tanya, Richard (Mary Kaye), Karene, Lori, Karla (Dan), Gary, Jeff (Lisa), David; along with many other beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. JaNaye is proceeded in death by her parents, Walter and Cleo Thom; siblings: Ingrid, Michelle; brother-in-law: Tom.
