Jack DeLong

Jack Charles DeLong, age 79, of Alexandria, MN passed away peacefully at Bethany on the Lake on March 27, 2022.

Jack was born in Hibbing, MN, the son of Henry and Lois and grew up in Crosby-Ironton area.  After graduating high school, Jack joined the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1961. After his discharge, Jack drove truck over the road for different companies. Jack went to work for Herzog Roofing and started his “work family” with Don, Bert, Shorty, Del, Harvey, Dave, Jerome K, and Jerome G. In 1968, he married Carol Steinhorst and lived in Alexandria. Jack and Carol were married for 53 years and raised two children. Jack worked in housekeeping at the Douglas County Hospital for 23 years, retiring at age 70.

Jack worked as a handyman helping anyone who needed help. He worked on mobile homes doing everything from hauling, set up, and repairs. Jack loved hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with family. He was a loving husband, father, proud grandpa, and great grandpa.

Jack is survived by a twin sister: Joyce Rowley and brother: Art DeLong. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, many brothers and sisters, and other family.

Jack will be deeply missed by his wife: Carol (Steinhorst) DeLong; son: Scott (Kristi) of Alexandria; daughter: Carmen (Paul) Thoennes of Millerville; grandchildren: Andrew (Alycia) DeLong, Erin (fiancé Bruce Winter) DeLong, Erick DeLong, Jonathon Thoennes, Justin Thoennes, Jordan Thoennes; and great-grandchild: Chase, Brianna, and Charlie DeLong.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Friday, April 1, 2022, at the Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. A live stream and recording of Jack’s service will be available 10:00 AM on Saturday on the funeral home website.
