Irene Marjorie was born November 13, 1935 to Elmer and Gladys (Staflin) Carlquist. She was the middle child and the only girl on a farm in rural Nelson Minnesota.
After graduating from Central High School in Alexandria Minnesota in 1953, she continued working at Anderson Furniture and Funeral Home as a bookkeeper, a job she started in high school. She shared an apartment with three friends that she considered the sisters she never had.
In 1956, she married George Schuneman, a high school sweetheart, when he returned from the US Army.
They farmed with his brothers in Belle River for many years while she continued to work different jobs off the farm for extra income. Anderson's Furniture of Alexandria, First State Bank of Carlos, and later on Douglas County Abstract of Alexandria.
They enjoyed vacations and traveled frequently out of state with their boys and later with friends.
After George passed away in 1998, she eventually retired and moved from the farm to Alexandria and traveled the world with her friend Sharon Illetschko.
While living in Alexandria she found new friendship and eventually married an old acquaintance Alvin Tvrdik in 2003. With Alvin, she traveled the country. By bus, plane, ship and camper. She had made many close friends on these adventures. They also had many adventures with the local Good Sams camping club.
Family and church were very important to Irene so when they could, her and Alvin attended their grandsons many ball games and concerts and all of the parties of their nephew and nieces that they were invited too.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, George Schuneman in 1998 and Alvin Tvrdik in 2023. Her son James Lee, parents Elmer, Gladys, Brothers Dale, and Eugene.
