Harvey Wiswell

b. November 30, 1930

Harvey Vincent Wiswell was born November 30, 1930 in Robbinsdale, MN, the son of Harry and Anna (Denk) Wiswell. He was raised and educated in St. Paul, MN. Harvey worked as a hired hand on Harold Hoppe?s farm north of Alexandria, MN for four years. In February of 1952 Harvey enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country for two years and was stationed in Austria and Germany. Following his discharge Harvey returned to the Alexandria area. On April 20, 1954 Harvey was united in marriage to Dorothy Hauer at St. William?s Church in Parkers Prairie, MN. The couple was blessed with four children, Terry, Connie, Phyllis and Steven. Harvey worked for twenty years at the Alexandria Boat Works. Later he worked for the Douglas County Parks Department where he retired from in the mid 1990?s. Harvey was a member of VFW Post 7826 in Miltona and the American Legion Post 219 in Parkers Prairie. He enjoyed spending time fishing in the summer and winter. Harvey enjoyed deer and duck hunting, and had a wonderful sense of humor. On Wednesday, May 18, 2011 Harvey died at the Knute Nelson home at the age of eighty years. His parents preceded him in death. Harvey is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wiswell of Miltona; his children, Terry Wiswell of Big Piney, WY, Connie Wiswell of Alexandria, Phyllis Carr of Morgantown, IN and Steven Wiswell of Washington, IN; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Sarah Jones of St. Paul. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, May 24 at St. Nicholas Church in Belle River, MN. Reverend Father Dave Petron was the celebrant. Kim Byrne provided music. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Casket bearers included Eldridge Rosell, Chuck Meyer, Dan Kopet, Bill Jones, Richard Jones and Darin Hauer. Milton Barbour was named as honorary casket bearer. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8726 accorded military honors. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
