Harold "Jim" Thompson, age 98, of Alexandria passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. A public visitation take place one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Harold James Thompson “Jim” was born born July, 6th 1925 to Vern and Nellie (Nelson) Thompson in Hancock, Minnesota. Jim grew up with humble beginnings. Like all boys his age, he enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his three brothers. Jim enlisted in the Navy in 1943 while still in high school, he felt a duty to serve and protect his country like so many others. In the Navy Jim was assigned to the Naval Air Force as a gunner on a PV1 Vega Ventura. Jim flew many combat missions and bombing runs and was honorably discharged in 1946. Shortly after his return from service, Jim met the love of his life Joan Jensen from Holmes City. The couple soon married. Together, Jim and Joan raised two wonderful sons, Michael and Bradley, who brought much joy into their lives. The family greatly enjoyed spending time together and traveling. Jim eventually became a grandfather and loved spending time with his three grandchildren: James, Craig, and Taryn as much as possible. Well known as an incredible fisherman and avid sportsman, Jim especially enjoyed fishing for walleyes and hunting whitetail deer. As an accomplished salesman of agricultural feeds and nutritional supplements, he built a large base of loyal customers, many of whom became lifelong friends.  

Throughout his life, Jim was known for his positive attitude, sense of humor and magnetic personality. Jim had a profound impact on everyone who was lucky enough to know him, he was always willing to go out of his way to bring a smile to others around him. A son, a brother, a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and neighbor; Jim will be missed by all. Those who were fortunate enough to know him will cherish his memory forever. 

Jim was proceeded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; brothers: Don, Bob and Dan; and sons: Bradley and Jeffery. Jim is survived by his son Michael (Nancy); grandchildren: James (Vanessa), Craig (Jamie), and Taryn; and great-granddaughter, Isabell. 




Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of arrangements for Jim.
