Harold Wayne Slaughter

Harold Wayne Slaughter, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at Knute Nelson in Alexandria, Minnesota. Born on February 17, 1940, in Tappen, North Dakota, Harold exemplified the values of hard work, kindness, and humor throughout his life.

After graduating from Tappen High School, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army. Following his military time, he returned home and worked construction, until he was able to further his education at the Wahpeton State School of Science. It was here, that he met the love of his life, Marie Tryba. Their love grew and they were united in marriage on July 16, 1966, in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Together, they created a loving home for their two beautiful daughters, Cindy and Janeen. Harold continued his education at North Dakota State University and received his bachelor’s degree in Universal Studies. While attending NDSU, Harold drove school bus for the West Fargo Schools for several years.

Harold's career journey took him through various roles, starting at Montgomery Wards before becoming an Electrical Grid Designer at NSP. Harold and his family moved to New Tripoli, PA for about 3 years where he worked for United Service Company as a manager. He then moved back to Minnesota where he worked for Dakota Food Equipment, where he remained until his retirement in 2007. Harold also found fulfillment in plumbing, lending his skills to many homes and needs in the community. He was the proud owner of Air Flow, a septic service business, which he ran for many years. Throughout the years, he loved the opportunity to visit with his customers, always eager to lend a helping hand and ensure their needs were met.

Those who knew Harold will remember his incredible sense of humor and quick wit. He possessed a talent for making others laugh with his clever one-liners, always knowing just how to lighten the mood. A hardworking man at heart, he never complained and was deeply proud of his daughters. His love for them extended to his grandchildren, with whom he shared countless joyful moments.

Harold leaves behind his loving wife of almost 60 years, Marie Slaughter of Alexandria; daughters Cindy (Brian) Swanson of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Janeen (Doug) Peterson of Alexandria; and grandchildren Alex (MacKenzie) Swanson, Nicole Swanson, Keith Swanson, Jacob Swanson, and Makayla Peterson. He also is survived by a sister, Ivy Knight of Allentown, PA.
