Alexandria

Gregory Allen Akervik, born on January 10, 1960, in Alexandria, MN, peacefully passed away on October 6, 2023, with his family by his side. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother.

Greg, the oldest of four siblings, grew up in rural Osakis, MN. He attended Osakis High School and graduated with the class of 1978. Following his graduation, Greg served his country in the United States Army from 1978 to 1981.

On April 8, 1982, Greg married Jean Collins. Together, they raised two children, Amy and Eric. Greg was a dedicated father, always providing love, guidance, and support to his family.

Throughout his career, Greg held various positions, each showcasing his strong work ethic and dedication. He worked at Plaza Tire and Auto in Alexandria from 1983 to 1988. Greg then made his career at Fleet Farm, where he worked for over 35 years until his retirement in 2023 due to health reasons. Known for his exceptional knowledge of the store's layout and inventory, he was always ready to assist customers, ensuring a positive shopping experience for everyone he encountered.  Greg liked to stay busy so in his free time he also worked at Ace Garage Door, Casey's Amusement Park, and as a lighting and sound technician for popular bands, Neon Highway and the Foolish Boys.

It was during his time at Fleet Farm that Greg met Lanae Eikom Samsel, who he referred to as ‘half-pint”. They were married on May 23, 2016. Together, they resided in Alexandria, and enjoyed traveling and frequently embarking on memorable adventures to Tolna, ND, Deadwood, SD, and The Black Hills.

Greg loved watching Nascar, football, baseball, and various racing events in his cherished "Man Cave." Music was a constant companion, with Classic Rock tunes filling the air as he tended to his yard or relaxed in his cave.  He had a deep connection to his roots and cherished his time spent on his uncle's farm near Osakis. Greg also spent time fishing on the area lakes, riding around on his 4-wheeler, and taking cruises on his Harley.

Greg's remarkable character was exemplified by his selflessness and generosity. He possessed a kind heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His family held a special place in his heart, and he relished every moment spent with his beloved grandchildren.

Gregory Allen Akervik's memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of his surviving relatives, including his spouse, Lanae Akervik, children, Amy (Greg) Friedrichs and Eric (Catherine) Akervik, grandchildren, Lexi, Riley, Brock, Jake, Emillie, Ali, and Nash, step children, Jake (Jesse) Samsel, Lynsey Samsel, Keegan Samsel and Kelsey (Robert) Carlson, step grandchildren, Cooper, Alayla, Everly, Michael, Ryot, Wyatt, Bryer, Amaya, and Bentley, his parents, Roger and Evelyn Akervik, siblings, Shari (Brad) Smith, Brad (Peggy) Akervik, and Gary Akervik, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
