Grant Allen Torfin, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on September 5, 2025 at the Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.
Born on May 27, 1952, in Glenwood, Minnesota, Grant grew up with a great love for the outdoors and a passion for learning. He was a graduate of Villard High School class of 1970 where he was a three sport athlete, after which attended the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy graduating in 1975. Grant would go on to work a successful career in pharmacy as a pharmacist and pharmaceutical salesman for 29 years where he built wonderful, genuine long lasting relationships with many during his tenure. After working throughout Idaho, Wisconsin, Ohio he eventually settled down just miles from his childhood home in Alexandria, Minnesota where he and Patty raised their young boys.
Born with a deep appreciation for nature, Grant found joy in every season growing up and working at his family’s resort- Torfin’s Resort- on Lake Amelia in Villard. During his teen years, it was at this resort where he met his future wife Patty Boerboom. Whether casting a line on the lake, skiing through fresh powder, or trotting up the fairways of a golf course, he embraced each moment outside as a gift. He will be remembered as a man who lived life to its fullest, seeking adventure outdoors, dancing to live music, and above all, time with those he loved most, his family.
While Grant’s passion for fishing, skiing, golf, hunting and overall sports enthusiasm brought him many happy days, it was his family that anchored his heart. He treasured every moment spent together, from holidays and adventures to attending every single sporting event that his children and grandchildren were participating in. To his family, Grant was not only a source of strength and love but also a role model who showed them the importance of kindness, laughter, and making continuous wonderful memories together.
Grant’s legacy will live on in the lessons he shared, the long elaborate stories he told, and the love he gave so freely through his beloved family survived by his loving sons Aaron (Christine), Adam (Suzanne), and Andrew (Jessi); grandchildren Mikayla, Ashton, Louden, Laney and great granddaughter Evelyn; James and Juliana; Arlo and Maeva; and his sister Nancy (Ron) Reichmann; nieces, nephews, and cousins of both the Torfin and Boerboom families. Grant is preceded in death by parents Russell and Ruth; wife Patricia Ann (Boerboom), and special friend Marlis Costello.
His family and friends will forever remember his warm spirit, adventurous heart, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
