Sep 5, 1924 — Oct 20, 2026

Alexandria

Geneva Irene Roers was born September 5, 1924, second child and second daughter of Frank and Anna (Prchal) Kvitek on a farm near Holmes City, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Nepomuk Catholic Church, Lake Reno.

When she was three years of age, the family moved to her great grandfather’s farm by Lowry, MN. Here she attended country school District 72. Thinking the day was too long she and her sister would leave at recess time and walk home the four miles to the surprise of their parents. At the age of eleven they moved to a farm near Brandon known as the Urness farm. She attended country school District 44 and then Brandon High School, graduating in 1942.

To fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher, she attended the Glenwood Teacher’s Training School and taught country school for several years. Taking that first paycheck in hand, she decided to buy a bedroom set. She went to Anderson Furniture and was waited on by a pleasant salesman; Carl Roers. He later told his friends that he had met the girl of his dreams. The salesman and the girl of his dreams were married on October 1, 1945. They became parents to four children and enjoyed nearly 60 years before Carl’s death October 23, 2004.

Geneva had many hobbies including gardening, canning, flowers, sewing (especially quilts for her family totaling 69), doing embroidery work, making Christmas stockings and Christmas tree skirts for everyone, baking family favorites for the holidays including kolaches, playing cards, and dancing at every opportunity to great bands. She wrote her mother’s genealogy going back nine generations, and Carl’s family history. Carl and she visited with many people to learn of their ancestry. She was a member of St. Mary’s Guild & Missions, Thrifty Homemakers Club for 48 years, Christian Mothers, Eucharist Minister along with Carl, and Catholic Aid Association. She never missed an episode of Young & The Restless and loved doing word find puzzles. She even wrote a recipe book for the family.

She was a stay-at-home mom until the children were all in school. She worked at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in the domestic department for several years, at Eko Backen Trophy Company, and Yeutter’s Bakery.

She and Carl enjoyed drawing up blueprints for the three homes they built. Carneva Acres has a special meaning to them and their family as it is named after Carl & Geneva.

The family hosted two foreign exchange students; one from Ecuador and one from Brazil and were able to visit Ecuador and their AFS daughter Lucy and her family. She and Carl loved to travel and visited all the states except Alaska and many foreign countries and have memories to last a lifetime. Her cherished spoon collection denotes their travels.

Wanting to enjoy retirement years they bought a lake home on Lake Le Homme Dieu and lived there for six years enjoying fishing from their pontoon. Lastly, they bought the first Voyager Townhome in 1991 and enjoyed thirteen years before Carl’s death.
