Alexandria – A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday Dec. 2nd, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria for Geneva C Johnson, age 99, who passed away peacefully on Thursday Nov. 21st, 2024, at Auburn Manor in Chaska MN. Father Dan Ruprecht will be the celebrant. Visitation will be at the church starting at 10 am until mass time. Entombment will be at St Mary’s cemetery with a luncheon to follow. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Gertrude Suchy; siblings: Leo, Ann Marie, Dorothy, George, Lorraine, Joseph, Bernard, James, Dennis, Leona. Children: James, and Mary, grandson Nicholas and former husband Carold.
Geneva is survived by her children; Constance Walde, Nancee (Norm), Mark (Sue) and Martha (Jeff)Bonneau, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
Geneva’s faith was important to her, giving time to help at St. Mary’s Church and school events. When she wintered for several years in Scottsdale (driving herself across country) she was involved at St. Maria Goretti and she joined in their mission trip to bring supplies to the needy in Mexico. She worked at Carolds 27 flavors for a number of years. In 1978 she moved to Edina and began work at Dayton’s Oval Room at Southdale, becoming a top sales woman and somewhat of an expert of fine furs. After a successful career she returned to Alexandria in 1991 and became a caretaker for her daughter Mary until her passing in 2009.
She belonged to the BCTDPB (the bridge club that didn’t play bridge). She loved collecting antique dolls and some would say her house looked like a museum. She had a keen sense of fashion, style and decorating knowing just how things could go together nicely. She loved planting flowers, dabbling at painting, watching movies and sitting in the warm sun.
In 2011 Geneva moved into assisted living at Auburn Manor in Chaska to be near family and later into skilled nursing care. Geneva was well liked at Auburn Manor with her bedazzled sunglasses, hats, her spunk and ability to keep the staff on their toes.
In Geneva's words:” I have been blessed with 6 children, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many friends who have supported me and have been there when I needed support, Thank you for that love and support!! Now my time has come to leave this place to pursue new pastures and so I say goodbye, farewell.!”
The family would like to thank the caring and dedicated staff at Auburn Manor for their many years of care.
