It is with great sadness that the family of Gary D. Harapat, age 68, of Alexandria, MN announces his passing on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at his home. Gary was born in St. Cloud, MN on December 6, 1953. He was the son of Dorothy and Stanley Harapat. Gary went to school in Osakis, MN and graduated from Osakis High School. Gary worked many, many years at Wells Fargo Bank in Minneapolis as a Proof Operator. He moved to Alexandria, MN, to be closer to some of his family where he had various jobs. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins. Win or lose, he still followed them either on TV or would go to the stadium. In addition to the Twins, he enjoyed Milwaukee Brewers baseball, the Green Bay Packers football team, collecting old movies, and country and western records. He loved to play games, especially Monopoly, 500, Whist and Bingo. Gary loved to go to the Minnesota State Fair every year. He enjoyed traveling to different states including Utah, Texas, and New Mexico to name a few. He also lived in California for a couple years.
Whoever knew Gary knew he was compassionate, kind, and sweet. He had a caring smile, and never said a bad word about anyone. When someone was hurting or sad, he shared that sadness or hurt with them. Gary had a quality few possess, which was his skill for listening. He had a lot of health problems, but never complained about them to anyone.
Gary was proceeded in death by his parents; his sister: JoAnne; and his brother: David. Left to cherish his memories are his siblings: Sharon, Clarann, Gordy, Kathy (Mark), and Dale; his nieces and nephews: Rebecca (Mark) Ochs, Shawn Thelen, Kimberlee (Jon) Collado, Eric (Maria) Harapat, Heidi Hasapopoulos, Kandi Harapat, Jeff Theisen, Travis (Amy) Seward, Lisa (Dustin) Livermore, Makahla Harapat, and Marina Rose Travis; and many great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 9, 2022, 3:00 PM at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN with visitation one-hour prior to the service. This service will be live-streamed and recorded for family and friends to view from Gary’s obituary page on the Anderson Funeral Home website at 3:00 PM on Saturday. Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Dahl, Gary Gylsen, Kandi Harapat, Brysen Hasapopoulos, Sean Petermeier, Travis Seward and Jeffrey Theisen.
