Gary Benedict Hanson, the son of Bennie Hanson and Helen (Mrnak) Pronek, was born on August 19, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Gary grew up in Alexandria and after the death of his father at age 10, Helen’s second husband Charlie Pronek helped raise him.  Gary attended country school and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962.  He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1968.   Gary was trained in field communications and traveled to many countries including Denmark, France, Spain, Norway, Sweden, Australia, and Switzerland.  After returning home, he worked at 3M for 33 years.

He married Kathleen (Kathy) Schommer on October 28, 1972.  They bought a home on Lake Brophy where they raised four wonderful children.  Gary enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, and fishing.  He also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, bingo, and puzzles.  He liked to cheer for Minnesota sports and was an excellent carpenter at home.  He will be forever missed by his loving family.
