Fernyne Ziegelman

Fernyne Lucile Ziegelman was born on March 12, 1918 in Box Elder, Montana, the daughter of Marvin and Elsie (Johnson) Russell. She moved to Garfield with her parents and attended grade school. She married Melvin Ziegelman on March 16, 1938 in the St. John's Lutheran Church in Garfield. Together they lived in Garfield for a while and then moved to Alexandria. Fernyne was a homemaker who loved to cook, bake, and knit. She also liked to play cards, especially bridge. She enjoyed traveling in their RV for vacations. Fernyne was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church singing in the church choir, teaching Wednesday School, and being involved with Evening Guild. Fernyne was a generous person with a feisty spirit and a loving heart.

She is survived by her husband Melvin Ziegelman of Alexandria; her daughters, Evadne and Ed Wadsworth of Alexandria, Lucile and David Cook of Sarteli, MN, Pat Floding and Bob Browning of White Bear Lake, MN, and Pam Ziegelman of Hastings, MN; her sons Roger and Olga Ziegelman of San Juan Capistrano, CA and Gordon and Donna Ziegelman of Coon Rapids, MN; 17 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren; one brother Kenneth and Florence Russell of Austin, MN and one sister Marcene and Ralph Ziegelman of Garfield, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Fernyne died on Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 86.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 5, 2004 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Terry Finner and Reverend William F. Moeller officiating. The organist was Mertice Brueske, special music was by Rex and Julie Mindach, and Andrew Dziuk played the trumpet. Interment was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery near Garfield, MN. Casket Bearers were Brian Ziegelman, Andrew Dziuk, Jeff Wadsworth, Steve Wadsworth, Dave Cook and Craig Cook. Honorary Casket Bearers were Julie Mindach, Susan Rachel, Barbara Martinson, Cathy Athmann, Ann Marie Mason, Christine Walker, Lisa Floding, and Ashley Dziuk.
