Evelyn Marjorie Peterson

Evelyn Marjorie Peterson was born on January 13, 1924, in Evansville, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest and Gerda (Johnson) Peterson. She was baptized on March 9, 1924, and confirmed on July 18, 1937, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Evansville.

In 1941, Evelyn and her family moved to Ottertail County. She graduated from high school in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She continued her education at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fergus Falls where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1946.

In 1948, Evelyn was employed as a Civil Service Operations Supervisor at the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. During the school’s summer breaks Evelyn worked at various hospitals; St. Luke’s Fergus Falls, three years at St. Ansgar in Moorhead, and eight years at St. Francis in Breckenridge. She also worked five years at Breezy Shore Resort in Detroit Lakes. After thirty-eight years of service in Morris, Evelyn retired. She continued part time work as a merchandiser for American Card Company for eight years.

In 2001, Evelyn moved to Alexandria, Minnesota to be closer to her family. She worked as a volunteer at Knute Nelson Historical Building. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, and summers at Eagle Lake. Evelyn liked to garden and kept busy doing embroidery work on dish towels. Most of all, Evelyn enjoyed the time she spent with her sister, Eleanor; they spent their whole lives together.

On Wednesday, May 19, 2026, Evelyn died at the age of 102. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Lillian Hallquist and Eleanor Peterson; brothers, Vernon Peterson and an infant brother; brother-in-law, Emmet Hallquist; nephews, Harlan Hallquist and Keith Hallquist; and one grandniece, Bobbi Jo Peterson. Evelyn is survived by her sister-in-law, Sandra Peterson of Alexandria; nephews, Allan (Naomi) Peterson and Jeff (Mary) Peterson; niece Brenda Peterson; nieces-in-law, Barb Hallquist and Julie Hallquist; and several other grand nieces and nephews

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Grand Arbor Care Center in Alexandria, Minnesota, beginning at 3:00 PM. A public visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville, Minnesota.
