Evangeline "Evie" Richards

Evangeline (Evie) Stella Richards was born on November 16, 1934, at the family home near Garfield, MN to Selmer and Ella (Monson) Holte.  She was baptized and confirmed at West Moe Lutheran Church.  Evie attended District 8 school near Garfield, MN, graduated in 1952 from Alexandria High School and went on to attend St. Cloud College from 1952-1954.

Evangeline was united in marriage to James Richards, on November 20th, 1954, at West Moe Church. They celebrated 45 years together until Jim’s death in August of 2000.

Evie was a member of East Moe Lutheran Church and was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, organist and council member.  She worked a few different places during her working years. Baumbach Drug, Douglas County Library, US Bank 1964-1997 and Bremer Bank.

She had a special love of family and time spent with them. She also loved getting together with former classmates, co-workers and neighbors. Evie loved to read, play music, art, crossword puzzles, take pictures, work in the yard and she had a green thumb like no other. She had a beautiful flower garden every year until she was well into her 80’s.

She is survived by her daughter Lynette Mounsdon and son-in-law Rodney Mounsdon, grandchildren: Andy (Janel) Mounsdon, Tony (Penny) Mounsdon and Wendy (Glen) Haburn, great grandchildren: Brook (Kyle) Nelson, Matthew (Sara) Mounsdon, Logan Haburn and Tehya Haburn, great-great grandchildren: Ella and Kylee Nelson and Avery Mounsdon, sister-in-laws LuAnne Holte and Phyllis Latham and their families, brother-in-laws Bill (Sue) Richards, Kenneth(Linda) Richards and families.

Preceded in death by: Husband James Richards, parents Selmer and Ella (Monson) Holte, Brother Orville Holte and great-great grandson Cohen Mounsdon.

Pall bearers are Rod Mounsdon, Andy Mounsdon, Tony Mounsdon, Glen Haburn, Matt Mounsdon, Logan Haburn, Kyle Nelson and Jeff Holte.

Honorary Pall bearers are Janel Mounsdon, Penny Mounsdon, Wendy Haburn, Brook Nelson, Sara Mounsdon and Tehya Haburn.

Evangeline "Evie" Richards, age 91, of Garfield, Minnesota died Monday, Feb. 23, 2026, at Bethany on the Lake in Alexandria.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 11 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Alexandria, MN.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 4-6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Interment will be in the East Moe Lutheran Cemetery in Moe Township, MN.
