Dudley Frederick Gerber; born August 12th, 1945, completed all his projects on January 1st, 2024.
Dudley spent his life as an educator, not only as a teacher in schools but as a guide and confidant to his family and friends. Dudley surrounded himself with life-long friends. Whether it was the farm house in Silver Lake, attending St. Cloud State University, planning Bluegrass festivals, time in Florida, Canada, the Clubhouse, or the lake in Brandon he dedicated his time to the friends he had made. Never without a story, a project, or a philosophical take, Dudley instilled his vast experience and knowledge with all those who would listen.
Marrying his first wife, Cindy, Dudley moved out to Montana, becoming a member of the Poltroons and a respected member of the community. After a brief relocation to Washington state, Dudley brought his family back to Minnesota where he became Superintendent at various school districts before retiring at his lake cabin and being able to enjoy winters in Texas.
With a dog named Bobby by his side for most of his life, Dudley enjoyed nature, spending time outdoors, hunting and especially fishing with Sam. The boat was about the only place where Dudley enjoyed silence. Otherwise, he enjoyed a project or a party. He and his friends renovated an old grainery on the farmstead he grew up on to form the Clubhouse, where endless memories were made.
Dudley took pride in the accomplishments of his daughter Heidi and son Garrity. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren Brysen, Brody, Jax and Juno grow up and teaching them about nature. Dudley displayed a lifetime of knowledge and his love of nature at the “Trapper Shack”, a beloved home away from home. It was at his shack that he spent his final days with family by his side.
Dudley will be dearly missed by all who knew him but will live on in the many, many stories of his life. Dudley is survived by his wife Cindy, brother Den, nephew Scott, grand-niece, Meghan, Daughter Heidi, Son Garrity, and Grandchildren Brysen, Brody, Jax, and Juno and many lifelong friends.
A celebration of life will be held on February 3rd, 2024, at the Blue Note in Winsted, MN from 11am-2pm; social hour from 11-12, eulogy at noon, with a light lunch to follow. Please bring stories to share!
