Donna Mae Benson

Donna Mae Benson (Mithun), born March 26, 1939, in Cyrus, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026. A devoted homemaker and cherished mother, Donna spent the majority of her adult life caring for her family, a role she embraced with profound love and dedication.

Donna’s early education took place in her hometown of Cyrus, where she attended school through the 6th grade. Her work ethic was evident in her years spent working at a glass factory in the Twin Cities, undertaking the long train commute. In addition, she served as a cook aid at Starbuck School, contributing to her community with kindness and care.

Family was the cornerstone of Donna’s life. She loved attending many family reunions and festive holiday gatherings that brought loved ones together. She delighted in many hobbies and interests, including sewing, dancing, finding a good garage sale, watching talk shows and Hallmark movies, gardening, and camping trips. These activities brought her joy and comfort throughout her years and were expressions of her caring and lively nature.

Her proudest accomplishment was her marriage to Delroy Benson on November 28, 1959, in Cyrus, MN, a union that endured until his passing. Donna was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband Delroy Benson, her sister Irene Eide, and her brothers Samuel and Edwin Mithun.

She is lovingly survived by her sons, Danny (Jen) Benson, Jimmy Benson, and Bobby (LuAnn) Benson; her daughters, Karen Benson and Linda Mathisen; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to honor her memory and the legacy of love she leaves behind.

Visitation and a prayer service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held on March 30, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory located at 659 Voyager Drive NW, Alexandria, MN 56308. The prayer service will begin at 3:00 PM followed by visitation until 6:00 PM.

Donna Mae Benson will be remembered as a woman who deeply loved her family and dedicated her life to creating precious memories. Her warmth, strength, and generosity remain an inspiration to all who knew her. Her presence will be dearly missed yet fondly remembered by her family and friends.
