Donavon John Roers, known to many as Don, passed away on July 14, 2026, at Alomere Health in Alexandria, MN, at the age of 88. Born on July 6, 1938, in Leaf Valley, MN, Don's life was shaped by his early years growing up on a farm, one of three children born to George and Johanna (Botzet) Roers.
His pursuit of opportunity led him to Minneapolis, MN, where his career began in a floral shop. Don’s friendly nature and ease with conversation opened the doors to a new profession as a bus driver, first for Jefferson Lines and later for Greyhound Lines. His time behind the wheel allowed him to meet countless people, always eager for a good conversation or a shared laugh.
Love found Don at a wedding dance, where he met Jeannetta “Jeannie” Klimek. Their lives intertwined, and they married in 1962. Together, Don and Jeannie made their home in Minneapolis, where they began their family, welcoming two children, Laura and Ronald. Later, they settled in Bloomington, MN, where they raised their children.
After years dedicated to work and family, Don and Jeannie looked forward to retirement in Carver, MN. However, Jeannie was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in 2002. In the years that followed, he lived in various communities throughout Minnesota, ultimately settling in Osakis for the past several years.
Don was known for his extroverted spirit; he was a talker who could strike up a conversation anywhere. His enjoyment of polka music, love of genealogy, passion for garage sales, and his grandchildren’s’ sporting events brought him many joyful moments. Don was also remembered for his thoughtful nature—a man who seldom missed sending greeting cards, often including clippings of jokes to brighten the day of those he cared about.
Don is survived by his daughter, Laura (Mike) Queenan; son, Ronald (Sarah) Roers; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Jeannie Roers; sister, Lucille Seiler; and brother, Marvin Roers.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
