Dixie Claymore

Dixie Kay Claymore, 63, passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be held from 5 – 7pm on Thursday, August 26th, 2021, at First Lutheran Church, 1655 18th Ave E, Alexandria, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, August 27th, 2021, also at First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Greg Billberg officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held before the memorial service.

Dixie was born on January 30th, 1958, in Lisbon, ND to Richard (Dick) and Donna Kupitz. She went to Valley City schools and was a cheerleader until graduating high school in 1976. She attended Valley City State University and then moved to Bismarck, ND where she attended the University of Mary and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. It was at the University of Mary where she met her husband of 41 years, Tex (Charles) Claymore, of Fort Yates, ND. They were married on June 28th, 1980.

Dixie and Tex started their life together in Bismarck, and soon after had their only daughter, Kaylee. They moved to Moorhead, MN, where Dixie worked at Moorhead Parks & Recreation and enjoyed watching the Spuds and Dragons. Tex and Dixie later moved to Rapid City, SD, where they spent several years enjoying life on a golf course, taking trips to the Black Hills and many nights in Deadwood. They moved back to Minnesota and made Alexandria their final home together. Dixie was very active within her neighborhood community, The Greens, and also worked at Neighborhood National Bank.

Dixie was a kind soul and always thought of others first. She loved being a mom to Kaylee, and later Nana to grandchildren, Grady and Miles. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and neighbors and could often be seen having a “Dixie Light” and talking for hours. She liked to travel, especially to her favorite place, Hawaii. She also loved going to Twins games and spending time at their lake home. Grady and Miles always made her smile and she loved baking with them, reading books or playing games, waiting for the garbage truck with Grady and watching them play at the lake.

Dixie is survived by her husband Tex, her daughter Kaylee (Drew) Carlson, her grandchildren Grady and Miles Carlson, her siblings Pandy (Doug) Anderson, Mike (Barbara) Kupitz, Barb (Bob) Sturdevant-Bossert, Tamie Fischbach, Ric Kupitz, the Claymore family including Gus (Margaret) Claymore, Jay Claymore, Bob (Roberta) Claymore, Jon (Becky) Claymore, LouAnn (Gary) Lorts, Krissa (Erik) Oatfield, Tara Claymore and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Donna, grandparents Harry and Martha Christensen and Ed and Jane Kupitz, brothers-in-law Mark Fischbach and Tom Sturdevant, nephew Wil Kupitz, father-in-law Gernell Claymore and mother-in-law Diane Claymore.

Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, Alexandria, MN and to the family for Grady and Miles’ future education, by Dixie’s request.
