DeWain Tyrone Everett passed away at his home in Osakis, MN, July 9, 2023. He was 82.
DeWain was born to Bernice Kellen Everett & Christian Reginald Everett in Madison, MN, September 18, 1940.
DeWain’s early years were in Madison, where his father owned gas stations. When DeWain was 12, the family moved to Hawthorne, CA, where his parents worked for aircraft manufacturers. After DeWain graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1958, his family moved back to Minnesota, settling in Alexandria.
In 1959, DeWain attended Lutheran Bible College and Northwestern Lutheran Seminary in Minneapolis to become a minister. While at college, he met and married Alice 'Gigi' Axtell on November 24, 1960. The couple had four children. They lived in Fridley and then Ramsey, MN. The couple later divorced.
DeWain was employed as a machinist for much of his career, spending most of his working life at FMC Corporation in Fridley and MHC in Glenwood.
In 1994, DeWain purchased property on Lake Osakis where he has resided since. He also had a winter retirement home in Mesa, AZ.
DeWain's favorite hobbies were singing karaoke (sometimes crashing private parties he didn't realize were private). He attended auctions and flea markets to enhance his stock of crockpots, kids’ bikes for parts, and “everything in this box for $5” because there had to be something of value in it. He loved classic car shows. And DeWain welcomed any opportunity to play 500 or Hand-and-Foot with his family.
DeWain was also an angler and deer hunter. In summer, he frequented family docks and boats, detangling grandkids’ lines and teaching them how to filet.
He is survived by his children: Daniel Everett of Aitkin, MN, Heidi Everett (Emil Towner) of Avon, MN, and Heather Michels of Alexandria, MN. He is also survived by his ex Gigi Everett of Hinckley, MN, siblings Robert (R'Dene) Everett of Mounds View, MN, RuthAnn (Joe) Murray of Ramsey, MN, Linda Kuehl of Andover, MN, and Nancy Nord of Alexandria, MN. DeWain was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, David, and his parents.
