Alexandria

Dean Richard Jahnke was born September 10, 1938, to Alfred and Ella (Rickert) Jahnke of Glencoe, Minnesota. He graduated from Glencoe High School and went on to receive his Masters of Education from Mankato State University. He spent the majority of his teaching career in the Robbinsdale School District at Sandburg Junior High teaching “shop”. He coached basketball and soccer, and was Sandburg’s athletic director.

Dean and Jan (Miller) Jahnke met in college and wed in 1960. They lived in Crystal where they raised three children: Beth (Eric) Henningsen, Brenda (Sean) Martens, and Daniel (Tammy) Jahnke, and were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Family was the joy of his life.

Dean enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, golfing and puttering in his shop at their retirement house he designed on Lake Ida. He enjoyed winters in Florida and traveling to all 50 states and several countries. He was active in his church and spent many years collecting water samples from his beloved Lake Ida for the DNR. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor by his friends, family, and especially “His Jan.”
