Dawn Johnson

Dawn Marie (Ziesemer) Johnson was born on July 9, 1960, in Alexandria, Minnesota to Donald and Karen (Thorson) Ziesemer.  She was baptized Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield.  Dawn graduated from Jefferson High School in Alexandria in 1978.

Dawn married James Johnson on March 22, 1979, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria.  The couple lived in Garfield, MN and she was blessed with two children, Cory and Jessica.  She later attended Alexandria Technical College for nursing.  Dawn worked as a nurse at Knute Nelson in Alexandria and worked at several special needs facilities.  She had a such a special gift in caring for the mentally and physically challenged.  She had the kindest and warmest heart.  Dawn helped care for so many and was willing to give anything she could for those in need.

Dawn had a passion for animals, especially horses.  She enjoyed riding her Harley Davidson, sunsets on the beaches of Florida and wearing jewelry.  Most of all, Dawn loved being with her family and friends.

Dawn passed on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at her home in Evansville after a long battle with cancer at the age of 61.  She is survived by her father, Donald Ziesemer; sister, Leslie Ziesemer; children, Cory Ziesemer and Jessica (Dustin) Anderson of Moorhead; grandchildren, Haley Ziesemer, Brooke, Dawson and Kal Anderson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  Dawn is preceded in death by her mother, Karen; and brothers, Troy Ziesemer and Tom Williamson.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, March 7, 2022, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church.  A live stream and recording of the service will be available 1:00 PM on Monday, March 7, 2022, on the funeral home website.
