Alexandria

Davis Charles Froemming, age 85, of Alexandria passed away at Knute Nelson Care Center on April 9, 2024. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria at 11:00 AM with burial at Kinkead Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services on Saturday. Pastor Matthew Lorenz will officiate the service.

Davis Froemming was born on April 28, 1938 at home in Leaf Valley Township to Adolph and Edna (Klug) Froemming. He was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley by Reverend Sprengler. He attended country school through the eighth grade at district 23 in Leaf Valley and graduated from Central High School in Alexandria in 1956.

In December of 1956, Davis enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for two years. After, he attended Hanson Trade School in Fargo, ND.

On June 18, 1960 Davis was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, LaVonne Braeger. Together, they then purchased a gas station in Hoffman, MN, where they remained for four years and made many life-long friendships. The couple then moved back to Alexandria, where Davis worked for Newhouse Machinery for seventeen years as a diesel mechanic. He then switched careers and worked for 3M until retirement in 1998. After retirement, he started Dave’s Handyman and Construction, which he did for ten years.

Davis was a man of many talents who was always willing to help others, whether it was giving advice or fixing things. Dave’s hobbies were deer hunting in the fall with his brother, nephews, and cousins in Leaf Valley, and cooking - especially his chili that was enjoyed by many throughout the years. His other passion was fishing. He particularly enjoyed participating in a fishing league in the summer with his good friends Wally and Roy. Dave also enjoyed winter fishing and spearing big northerners.

Children seemed to always be attracted to Davis’s playful personality, he loved to teach them how to fish and also how to play card games. He belonged to the Men’s Ministry at Zion Lutheran, where he served as president for a couple of years. He was always there to organize the men’s fish fry and pancake breakfast.

Davis is survived by his wife of 63 years, LaVonne Froemming; brother, Dan (Pat) Froemming; sister, Barbara (Eric) West; nephew, Todd (Jackie) Froemming; nieces: Janelle (Ken) Riley, Jana (Dale) Froemming Crosby, and Amy (Bill) Wilhelms, and several other beloved great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-dad, Melvin Anderson; and nephew, Andy West. He will be dearly miss by all.

Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Davis.
