David Howard Hvezda

David Howard Hvezda was born on August 22, 1938, in Starbuck, Minnesota the son of Howard and Helen (Hiebel) Hvezda. He grew up on a farm and attended country school. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1957. Dave met and married Florence Bettin on November 22, 1958. To this union four children were born.

As a teenager Dave started working in the plumbing field gaining knowledge and experience towards a career in Pipe Trades as a High Pressure Steamfitter and then a Certified High Pressure Pipe Welder. He worked on a lot of new construction such as schools, hospitals and many years at the Power Plants in Becker and Monticello.

In his spare time he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He made several trips up to Canada and Deer Camp was always a special time. Dave also loved making weighted ice fishing decoys and sold some at decoy shows. He was a very talented man and never did anything halfway.

His greatest love was time spent with his family – they were his pride and joy. He treasured camping with them and outings at the “Lake Lot” where some favorite memories were made.

David died on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Florence of 67 years; daughters: Jeanne (Tom) Hammer of Alexandria; Judith (John) Welsh of Alexandria; sons: Kenneth of Osakis, Howard (Bridget) of Ohio; four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, 1:30 – 2:30 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 PM. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
