Cynthia Thoennes

Cynthia Jean “Cindy” Thoennes was born on April 27, 1957 at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Eugene and Jeannette (Post) White.  She grew up in Little Falls, MN where she graduated from Little Falls High School in 1975. Cindy continued her education at Alexandria Technical College studying accounting. She started her career in education at Head Start and worked as a Paraprofessional in the 206 District for over 20 years. Cindy worked at Carlos Elementary School the longest and took great pride in her job helping children. On September 15, 1979, Cindy was united in marriage to Donald “Donnie” Thoennes. The couple made their home in Alexandria and were blessed with two children, Dustin and Samantha.

Cindy’s family was very important to her. She enjoyed spending time going on family trips to Duluth and the North Shore, hosting family picnics and holiday dinners, thrift shopping with her sisters, going to the casino with her mother and sisters, and having girls’ weekends. Cindy was able to share those same family values with her husband and children.

Cindy also like to spend her time fishing, camping, reading books, gardening, remodeling and fixing up the house, crafting, woodworking, and being outside.

Cindy died on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the age of 63 at her home in Alexandria.  She is survived by her two children: Dustin and Samantha Thoennes; brothers: Steve (Mary Ann) White and George (Debra) White; sisters: Kathy Lief-Monson and Sue (Dave) Lubbers; and her brother-in-law: Steve Thorp.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister: Jeannette Thorp and brother: Sloan White.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 PM on Friday, February 12, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.  A live stream and recording of the service will be available 12:30 PM on Friday, February 12, 2021, on the funeral home website.
