Charlie "Chuck" Hardie, 82 of Alexandria, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria beginning at 11:00 AM. A public visitation will take place prior to services starting at 9:30 AM. Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria following a funeral luncheon at the church.
Charlie Fredrick Hardie was born on May 16, 1943 to Newell and Ethel (Voss) Hardie in Rosholt, South Dakota. He was the second youngest of the four children growing up on the family farm, attending school in Fairmount, North Dakota.
While in high school, Charlie met his sweetheart, Pat Bladow. Pat often visited her grandparents who lived in Fairmont, ND. They were united in marriage on June 6, 1964, in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Weeks before the wedding, a devastating tornado damaged their church in Fairmount, prompting a last minute change in their plans.
After graduating from high school, Charlie went to State School of Science for one year. On January 5, 1966, Charlie was drafted for the Vietnam War. He was stationed at the Army Base in Stuttgart, Germany, where he worked in the medical records department. Pat joined Charlie during his time in Germany, where they lived for a year and a half. Charlie and Pat enjoyed traveling and embracing the local culture - a passion they continued to share throughout their marriage.
Upon completing two years of serving in Germany, in 1968 Charlie was transferred to Fort Carson, Colorado, where he received an honorable discharge from the United States Army. Charlie and Pat eventually made their way and settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Charlie began a career in sales with Sears and they started their family.
In 1971, Charlie was transferred to the Sears store in Alexandria, where he continued his career in sales. He also spent time working for Lester Buildings and Buttweiler’s-Do-All prior to retiring. Charlie cherished the Alexandria community, as well as the many activities he enjoyed with Pat and their friends - hunting, fishing, golf, softball and volleyball. Almost every weekend you would find Charlie and Pat visiting friends and family. If anyone was in need of help he would be the first one there. After retirement, Charlie and Pat spent winters in Texas and Arizona.
He deeply cherished his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Pat Hardie of Alexandria; daughters Kimberly Moen and Kari (Duane) Erlandson; grandchildren, Kevin Moen, Cassandra (Michael) Anderson, Abigail (Matt) Bray, Kali (Mitchell) Kaeter, Robb Erlandson and Carter Erlandson; and great-grandchildren; Akeley, Everley, Paxton, and Leighton Kaeter; Wyatt, Ayden, and Myles Bray; Keelin Anderson. He is also survived by his brothers, Walter Hardie and Dennis (Karen) Hardie; sister-in-laws; Judith Bremseth, Debra (Jerry) Alexander, and Sharon (Dean) Priem. He is survived by numerous relatives and friends, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews who lovingly knew him as “Most Honorable Uncle.”
Charlie was preceded in death by his son, Brian Hardie (1982); parents, Newell and Ethel Hardie; step-father, Arvid Peterson; in-laws, Arnold and Mildred Bladow; sister, Norma, brother-in-law Barry Wood; his sister-in-law, Eleanor Hardie; and his brother-in-law Wayne Bremseth.
Charlie’s kindness, humor and love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
