Carolyn Marie (Trevathan) Navratil, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away on April 17, 2026, at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center. She was born on March 2, 1951, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and was one of four children born to Dwight and Marie (Hale) Trevathan. Early in her life, her family relocated to Rowland Heights, California, where she completed her high school education.
It was through mutual friends that Carolyn met David "Dave" Navratil, with whom she shared a deep and enduring bond. They married on February 14, 1969, and were blessed with two children, Colene and Derek.
Throughout her professional life, Carolyn demonstrated a strong work ethic across various roles. She began her career in California with clerical work, while also managing a donut shop for several years. In 1985, the family moved to Alexandria, Minnesota, returning to Dave’s hometown. Carolyn continued her professional life in Alexandria, starting at a local bank. She later worked for a local real estate agency, Continental Bridge, and then Henry’s Foods, before retiring in 2023. Throughout her working years, she balanced her commitments with unwavering support for her family.
A devoted and involved mother, Carolyn’s presence was a constant at her children’s sporting events and activities—her encouragement and sense of humor leaving lasting impressions. The family shared many joyful times, especially during camping trips around Minnesota, which created treasured memories. During their time living in California, both Carolyn and Dave were active members of a motorcycle club. Additionally, Carolyn participated in a local bowling club, reflecting her enthusiasm for community involvement.
Carolyn was known for her kind and social nature, her affinity for engaging in conversations, and her willingness to assist anyone in need. Her talents extended to sewing, and she enjoyed outdoor gatherings, bonfires, and playing bocce ball. Traveling was one of her great joys—particularly her memorable trip to Italy with her daughter-in-law, Isabelle. Above all, Carolyn adored her grandchildren, delighting in crafts and quality time that deepened their relationship.
Carolyn Marie Navratil’s life was marked by a spirit of generosity, warmth, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy will continue through the love and memories shared by those who knew her best.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Derek (Isabelle) Navratil; grandchildren, Jonathan, Bruce and Tom; and great-grandchildren, Jace and Jameson. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Colene Wenzel; sisters, Janis Valles and Donis Powell; and brother, Charles Trevathan.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 23rd, 2026, at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, MN.
