Carol Jane Meyer

Carol was born on August 12, 1942, in Otter Tail County, MN. She was the middle of three children born to Hans and Alice (Welch) Pederson.

She attended School No. 162, a one-room schoolhouse in rural Underwood, MN, through 8th grade. She then went on to the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN, graduating in 1960. After graduation Carol moved to Fergus Falls to begin work as a bookkeeper with Mark Sand and Gravel. This job launched her career in the financial world.

While living in Fergus Falls Carol met and married Dale G. Anderson. The couple was blessed with two children, Dan and Maureen. The family moved to Alexandria in 1963. Carol married LeRoy J. Meyer in October 1988 and was blessed with bonus adult children and grandchildren.

Carol worked several jobs before landing at Community State Bank of Alexandria where she helped launch the bank in 1972. She remained with the bank until her retirement in May 1995.

This early retirement allowed Carol to focus on her passion of building a better community. She was actively involved in too many organizations to list. However, some that were most dear to her included the United Methodist Church, the Runestone Museum, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, and West Central Communities Action, Inc. where she provided tax preparation services for low-income individuals and families. She was gearing up for the 2023 tax season right up to her passing.

This commitment to the community resulted in her being named a Jefferson Awards winner. The Jefferson Awards were established in 1972 to encourage and honor individuals for their achievements and contributions through public and community service.

Outside of her volunteering, Carol was an avid gardener and was a long-time member of the local master gardener program. She also found joy in golfing, bowling, and the Minnesota Twins allowing her to create many memories with friends and family.

Carol passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband LeRoy Meyer.

She is survived by her brothers Donald Pederson of Duluth, MN, and Jerald Pederson of Tucson, AZ, children Daniel (Kathy) Anderson of Nisswa MN, Maureen (Randy) Winger, William Meyer, Susan (Dennis) Brede, Charlie (Kathy) Meyer all of Alexandria. Grandchildren include Jared (Nina) Anderson, Trent (Sarah) Anderson, Gage Winger, Madalyn Winger, Chad (Alicia) Meyer, Matthew (Sara) Meyer, William Cody (Jacque) Meyer, Nevin (Leigh) Brede, Wade (Mandy) Meyer, Mindie Meyer, Christine Friday, and Amanda (Steven) Miller. Carol is also survived by 19 great grandchildren with the 20th on the way.

Carol's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of kindness, devotion, and community spirit will continue to live on. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a beacon and warmth and generosity in the Alexandria community.
