Arlue Marieanne Beheng a third-generation resident of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the age of 94, at Grand Arbor by Knute Nelson.

Arlue was born at Tanquist Hospital in Alexandria to Chester and Annie (Nyquist) Olson on July 30, 1929. She was the oldest of the families two children and remained  lifelong best friends with her brother, Merle Olson.

Arlue attended grade school and junior high in Alexandria and graduated Alexandria High School in 1947.   She went on to earn a teaching degree from St. Cloud State Teachers College and taught elementary and special education in Albert Lea, Glenwood, Alexandria and Duluth, Minnesota.

On August 12, 1951 Arlue married Marlo Beheng at the First Methodist Church of Alexandria after Marlo’s return from the Korean Conflict. Together they had four children, Jody Seaman of St. Cloud, Dan Beheng (Patty) of Alexandria, Julie EtsHokin (David) of Highwood, Illinois and Michael Beheng (Lori) of Alexandria.  Marlo passed away in October 1982 in Duluth, Minnesota after 38-years of marriage.

The Beheng family moved to Duluth, MN in 1973 for Marlo’s work at Great Lakes Gas Transmission Company and resided there for 20-years. In Duluth Arlue served as a substitute teacher in the public school system and as a docin at Glensheen Mansion for several years. Upon her return to Alexandria in July 1994, Arlue became a member of PEO Chapter EL. For 11-years, Arlue loved being a tour guide and geneolgy researcher at the Douglas County Historical Society and was often called upon to portray Nicholina Nelson in local parades and events.

She is survived by her children, Jody, Dan Beheng (Patty), Julie EtsHokin (David), 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Arlue spent many years living at her home on Lake Latoka in Alexandria. She loved to travel, swim, fish, garden, quilt and watch the seasons change. Family and friends enjoyed coming to visit her warm and welcoming home.  She spent many hours baking brown bread, caramel rolls and cookies with her adoring grandchildren and family.

Arlue taught us all to be kind, patient, generous and loving towards one another.  She was a true blessing and will be missed by all.
