Arlou LaMae Schwendemann was born on May 18, 1934 in Urness Township, the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Thorson) Urness. She attended country school, and later Kensington High School, before matriculating to Alexandria High School, where she graduated with the class of 1953.
After graduation, Arlou moved to the cities and married LaVerne Schwendemann in 1954. Together, they were blessed with three children: Paul, Amy, and Sheila. Arlou worked at Univac before moving back to Alexandria in 1972, and was the owner of Arlou’s dress shop until 1984. She then worked for Dr. Anderson until her retirement.
On March 8, 1997, Arlou married Hank Hyatt. For all of her life, Arlou was a woman of great faith. She and her sisters loved to sing during services, and Arlou also enjoyed participating in Bible study and other church functions.
Arlou will be remembered for being very kind and generous. She loved going dancing, playing cards, doing puzzles, and going to the casino! But her greatest treasure was spending time with her family and friends.
