Andrew Lindy Westman, age 95, of Alexandria passed away on February 10, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was called Lindy amongst family and Andy amongst friends.

Lindy was born on September 10, 1927, in Benedict, North Dakota, and was given the name Andrew after his grandfather who immigrated from Sweden and Lindy after aviator Charles Lindberg. Lindy attended school in Benedict through the 8th grade. His family moved to Eagle Lake Township near Ashby in 1941. Upon turning 18, Lindy enlisted in the army and served in Seoul, Korea during the U.S. Occupation of Japan following WWII. During his service, he learned carpentry skills that he would use the rest of his life. On May 22, 1954, Lindy married Betty Jane Dahlen, and from this marriage four children were born. Lindy and Betty first lived in Eagle Lake Township before moving to the Twin Cities. In 1974, they moved to Alexandria and owned a farm on Centennial Drive.

Lindy built homes that he sold in both the Twin Cities and in Alexandria. He also loved to farm. He raised cattle for some time, but he eventually found his passion in raising hogs. When he stopped raising hogs and crops on the land, he planted the farm with trees that flourish today and provide a great habitat for deer and other wildlife. From boyhood to a 95-year man, Lindy had a strong connection to farming.  Lindy always enjoyed planting trees, plants and flowers and then watch these things grow and blossom.

Lindy is survived by his children Allen of West St. Paul, Philip of Norwood Young America, Sheri (Tim) Mikish of Browerville, and Gary (Tracy) of West St. Paul, by his grandchildren Aaron (Sarah) of River Falls, WI, Austin of West St. Paul, Alicia Moot (Ted Ivers) of Zimmerman, Derek Mikish of Staples, and Ethan Westman Meech of Hutchinson, and by his great grandchildren Elise, Heidi, Austin, Lilah and Elijah. In addition, Lindy is survived by his sisters Violet Evavold of Ashby and Darlyne Thoen of Cologne, sister-in-law Darlene Olson of Crystal Lake, IL, and brother-in-law Warren Dahlen of Barrett.  Lindy was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, his sister Gwendolyn Olson, his brothers Lynn and Edsel, and other relatives.

A Celebration of Lindy’s Life will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, April 22, at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 659 Voyager Drive in Alexandria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
