Alice E. Boesen
July 14, 1936 – July 2, 2025
Alice Emma (Roers) Boesen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 88 at Bethany on the Lake in Alexandria, Minnesota. She was born near Garfield, Minnesota on July 14, 1936 (which she would remind you every year was the hottest day ever recorded in Minnesota). Alice was the daughter and seventh of eight children born to Hubert and Emma Roers. She attended School District #37 in Brandon, Minnesota and graduated from Brandon High School in 1954. Directly after graduation, Alice boarded a bus for the Twin Cities equipped with only one suitcase and her graduation money. She began working for The Maico Company as a Girl Friday soon after arriving in Minneapolis.
On August 18, 1956, Alice married Melvin Boesen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Urbank, Minnesota. The couple raised their three children, in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and were able to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2016. Alice was a devoted wife and mother, a wonderful cook and homemaker, and a generous hostess. In the days when a long-distance phone call seemed costly, it was not unheard of to find unexpected company on the doorstep wanting lodging for a night or two. She always made them feel at home.
Alice and Melvin made Alexandria their permanent home in 2010. They enjoyed daily cribbage contests, playing golf, and visiting with their many friends and family members. Alice especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and was known to have a penchant for ridiculousness. They moved from their condo on Lake Carlos to an apartment in Windmill Ponds in 2014. Alice remained at Windmill Ponds until June of this year.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, and infant son, Melvin Peter Jr. Members of her Heavenly Welcoming Committee also include her parents; parents-in-law: Clarence and Adelheid Boesen; three sisters, two brothers, eight nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. She is survived by daughter: Marcia (Brian) Johnson; sons: Thomas Boesen, and Daniel (Joan) Boesen; grandchildren Leah (Kale) Carlson, Dana (Cormac) Strahnson, Adrienne (Jason) Mutzenberger, Aaron (Dr. Jaime Kingsley) Loso; and great-grandchildren: Greta and Briar Carlson, Isabelle Warren, Lily Mutzenberger, and Aston and Kingsley Loso. Alice is also survived by brothers: Wally (Evelyn) Roers, Dennis (Irma) Roers; in-laws: Bernie (Maureen) Boesen, Gary (Colleen) Boesen, John (Melanie) Boesen, Carol (Tom) Rentz, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
