Agatha Thoennes

June 20, 1922 — January 2, 2021

Alexandria, Minnesota

Agatha Cecelia (Brozek) Thoennes was born in Douglas County on June 20, 1922, the first of seven children of Andrew and Rose (Korkowski) Brozek. She attended country school in District #56 through the 8th grade.

Agatha was united in marriage to Alphonse Thoennes on October 29, 1945, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brandon. The couple farmed by Urbank where they raised their seven children. Making Christmas dinners for her family was always special. Other family favorites were her potato pancakes and sauerkraut and dumplings. Agatha was a member of the Christian Mothers and helped at many funeral luncheons. She was a charter member of the MIllerville American Legion Auxiliary Post 527 for over 50 years.

In 1979, they retired from farming and moved to Alexandria. They enjoyed traveling and covered a lot of the USA by bus, and also traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and Europe. Agatha loved to play cards, go to the casino, take walks, or ride her three-wheeled bicycle in the neighborhood and stop for chats. Plants were special to her, especially the Easter Lilies every spring. She was proud of her garden and raspberries that she would share with family and friends. She did lots of sewing, embroidery and quilting. Agatha made over 100 lap robes for the Veterans and many baby quilts for the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery, Catholic Charities, Birthright and the American Red Cross.

Agatha moved to Windmill Ponds in 2013, where she continued to be very active playing cards, going on casino trips, and exercise classes.

Agatha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alphonse, daughter Sylvia, grandson Craig, sons-in-law Richard Och and Hugo Revering Jr, brothers Edmund, Jerome and Philip, and sister Bernice Pirkl.

Agatha is survived by her children Elaine Och of Paynesville, Irene Revering of Blaine, Mary (Paul) Beutler of Clermont, Florida, Marvin (Lori) Thoennes of Urbank, Gerald Thoennes of Urbank, and Charles (Kim) Thoennes of Alexandria. She is also survived by sisters Rita Felts of Westminster, Colorado, and Florence (Mike) Macklin of Lenore, Idaho, 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great- grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
