Phyllis Jean (Ingebritson) Hanak was born on January 8, 1946 in Austin, Minnesota to Herman and Edna (Storby) Ingebritson. She was baptized February 17, 1946 at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, IA and confirmed on Pentecostal Sunday, June 3, 1960. Phyllis attended many schools including grades 9-11 in Alexandria and she graduated from Osage, IA High School in 1964. She attended the Mankato, MN School of Beauty Culture in 1965. After college Phyllis returned to Alexandria and lived with her sister, Marjorie, while working in different salons.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Bruce Hanak on October 26, 1969 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. In 1972, she started Phyllis's Beauty Salon. Phyllis worked as a beautician for 45 years and had many wonderful loyal customers.
Phyllis enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, collecting many different things, especially Beanie Babies. She also had a lot of luck winning things, from a snowmobile to a car. Phyllis loved spending her time at their 40 acres. She was a great mother and was very active running her boys to all their sporting events. Phyllis was a very understanding and good hearted woman to everyone. She was also a wonderful wife and has missed Bruce since his passing in 2004. Phyllis's pride and joy were her grandsons and she would light up when they walked in the room.
Phyllis died on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Bethel Manor in Alexandria at the age of 70. She is survived by her sons, Jeffery (Alina) Hanak of Summer Set, SD, Jason Hanak of Alexandria and Joel Hanak of Alexandria; grandsons, Jordan and Johnathan; sisters, Shirley (Stan) Witham of Osage, IA and Marjorie Melin of Alexandria; brother, Wayne (Karen) Ingebritson of Janesville, MN; uncle, Julius Ingebritson of New Ulm, MN; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Hanak; parents, Alice and Herman Ingebritson; mother and father-in-law, Andy and Violet Hanak; infant brother, Ronald Ingebritson; sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Richard Wolters; brothers-in-law, John Melin and Alan Martinson; nieces, Elizabeth Wolters and Meta Weber; and nephew, Mickey Ingebritson.
Phyllis J. Hanak age 70 of Alexandria died on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Bethel Manor.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
