John Sherman

John Rolland Sherman Jr. was born on October 22, 1956, in Marshall, MN, the son of John and Cleone (Sandstrom) Sherman. John was raised in Marshall where he graduated from high school in 1975. He attended college and then worked for his father at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He married Susan Louwagie on July 26, 1980. They had three children, Andy, Sunny, and Abby. John was very involved with Blue Lodge, Chapters, Commandery, York Rite, and Zuhrah Temple. He served as Past Master of Blue Lodge on several occasions. He and his family moved to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1993. He enjoyed volunteering as a tutor and watching his kids play sports. John completed his education at Southwest State University.

John was a man with a big heart and a free spirit. He loved life and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching hockey. He also had a green thumb and spent time gardening and landscaping. John was a caring son who cherished his time with his parents. He was also a loving and generous father who taught his children many life lessons along the way. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

John R. Sherman died on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at the Swift County Benson Hospital at the age of 58 years old. He is survived by his son Andy Sherman of Eagan, MN; daughters Sunny Sherman of Seattle, WA, and Abby Sherman of San Francisco, CA; parents John and Cleone Sherman of Alexandria; brother Jim Sherman of St. Cloud; sister Mary Jo (Bruce) Carlson of Bellevue, WA; niece Ayn Carlson of Redmond, WA, and nephews Cole Carlson of Bellevue, WA, and Brian Sherman of St. Paul.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
