Stanley Harris Max

December 4, 1924 ~ November 30, 2018 (age 93)

Stanley Harris Max was born December 4th, 1924 in Farwell, Minnesota. The son of Henry and Minnie (Buckem) Max. 

His family moved to Alexandria when he was four. Stan was confirmed at First English Lutheran church in Alexandria in August, 1939.

Stan graduated from Central High School in 1943. He enjoyed playing baseball, football, and was the co-captain of the basketball team. This team took 2nd place at state their senior year.

He graduated Friday evening, and Monday morning left for the Army Air Corps to pursue his training to become a pilot.

Stan married the love of his life, Marna Ann Johnson, on June 8th, 1948. They were fortunate to enjoy 60 years together, most of them at their home they built on Lake Le Homme Dieu. 

They also shared a love of travel. Some of his many interests were hunting, fishing, model trains, lake life, and everything outdoors.

He spent most of his adult life working as an engineer for Williams Pipe Line, also serving as their union representative traveling frequently to meetings.

Stan was an active member of First Lutheran Church. He, along with his father, helped build the “new” church building on Douglas Street. He served as president of the congregation, and on the church council.

Stan was a loving husband, father and grandfather. They have two daughters: Leslie Ann (Robert) Larson, and Valerie Kay (Gary) Ebel, all of Alexandria, Mn.

On Friday, November 30th, 2018, Stan was called home 4 days shy of his 94th birthday. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marna, his parents, Henry & Minnie Max, brothers Howard (Daisy), Ralph (Bette), sisters Adeline (Tom) Peart, and Marlys (Earl) Riebhoff, sister-in-law Arlyce Max, grandson Robbie Larson.

He is survived by daughters Leslie (Robert) Larson, and Valerie (Gary) Ebel, grandchildren Philip Larson, Moorhead MN, Brenton (Jennifer) Larson, West Fargo ND, Michael (Danielle) Larson, Schaumburg ILL, Heather (Ron) Parker, Aberdeen SD, Chad (LaRene) Ebel, Plano TX, Melissa (Tony) Berghuis, Fargo ND, and Christian Ebel, Fargo ND. Great grandchildren Brianna, Ryan Alicia, Shelby, MacKenzie, Joshua, Grant, Parker, Hunter, Alexa, Jonathan, Bobby, Andrew, and Abby.  Brother Rodney Max, Lakewood CO, sister-in-law Frances Engstrom, Alexandria MN, numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9th from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. and Memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Pastor Ben Jacobson officiating.  Burial will be at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria with Military Honors by American Legion Post #87, VFW Post #936, VVA Post 235 and Marine Corps League #1409.
