Robert Alan Roth

July 12, 1944 ~ July 23, 2018 (age 74)

Robert (Bob) Alan Roth was born July 12, 1944 to Carl and Louise (Olson) Roth in Sisseton, SD. He attended a one room country school for eight years; one teacher taught all eight grades. Bob graduated from Sisseton Public High School in 1962. He enlisted in the army in 1962 and spent three years at Fort Campbell, KY as a paratrooper in the 101st airborne division. Bob married Rita Rumpca of Grenville, SD. To this union two children were born, Gregory and Anita. This marriage ended. In 1980 Bob married Doris Sobiech of North Prairie, MN.

Bob always said nobody could make up the story of his life. From the one-room country school where, on snowy days when the roads were blocked, the teacher and her husband would pick up kids with a team of horses and sleigh and go to school to a career that allowed him to see all forty-eight states as a truck driver. Starting out as an owner/operator in trucking to having a twenty-year career with Wal-Mart out of Bentonville, AR and receiving many safe driving awards. Bob retired in 2014.

While working for Wal-Mart Bob started volunteering at Horses for Healing and working with special needs kids on therapy horses. He continued this volunteer work after he retired because he enjoyed it so much. His work with Horses for Healing ended when he and Doris moved back to Minnesota.

Bob was co-owner, with Doris, of Debut Boutique, a Better Missy ladies shop; they owned and operated for twenty years while living in Arkansas. Bob was very involved in setting up the shop, setting up all their shows and operating the business. He always said dealing with the shop, whether it was set ups, shows, markets or just daily duties gave him a nice break from driving.

For a number of years, Bob enjoyed his summer vacations, taking his kids and granddaughter to the various resorts in the Glenwood and Alexandria areas. He also enjoyed his June fishing trips to South Dakota with his nephews. Gulf Shores, AL was his favorite winter get-away; he always enjoyed catching the big fish in the gulf.

Bob and Doris moved back to Alexandria MN in 2016. Bob enjoyed fishing the Alexandria lakes, and playing cards with family, friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed walking and playing with his dogs, Char and Chab.

On Monday, July 23, 2018 Bob died at the age of seventy-four years. He is survived by his wife, Doris Roth, of Alexandria; children Gregory and Anita (Greg) Bloom, all of Buffalo, MN; and one granddaughter, Madison, of Pensacola, FL. He was preceded in death by parents, Carl and Louise Roth; mother and father-in-law, Aloysius and Marie Sobiech; daughter-in-law, Melinda Roth; sisters-in-law, Linda Sobiech and Yvonne Roth; brother-in-law, William Grajczyk; and nephews, Joey Roth and Marlyn DeVries.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 AM Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery at North Prairie, MN. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Horses for Healing, 14673 Daniels Rd, Bentonville, AR 72712.
