Paulvin A Hertwig

July 17, 1932 ~ September 28, 2018 (age 86)

Paulvin Adolph Hertwig was born on July 17, 1932, in Miltona Township, Douglas County, Minnesota to Paul and Bertha (Kalpin) Hertwig.  He attended country school in District 59 in Leaf Valley Township.  Paulvin helped his father farm and then was drafted into the U.S. Army.

Paulvin was united in marriage to Marie Meyer on October 19, 1957, at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington Township.  The couple made their home in Alexandria; they were blessed with two children, Patricia and Machelle.  The family moved to International Falls for a year and a half, before moving back to Alexandria.  The family was blessed with two more children, Darin and Sandra.  Paulvin worked at Darling Ranch as a mechanic, which would later become Arrowood.  Paulvin worked there for over 40 years and was still helping into his 80’s.

Paulvin was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed fixing things; many say if Paulvin couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed.  He had a passion for painting, and liked painting on sawblades, rocks and even painted a mural for West Miltona Lutheran Church.  Paulvin also liked woodworking and making furniture.   He enjoyed riding snowmobile and gardening.  He had a big heart for animals, especially horses and dogs and watching and feeding birds.  Paulvin was a very humble man and was grateful for every person that was in his life.

Paulvin died on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 86.  He is survived by his wife, Marie of Alexandria; children, Trish (Ron) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD, Shelly (Graham) Timbey of Sioux Falls, SD, Darin “Cement” (Mary) Hertwig of Buffalo, MN, Sandi (Todd) Domine of Alexandria; two grandchildren, Savanna and Jordon Timbey; sisters, Adeline Hink of River Falls, WI, Berdeen (Wayne) Benson both of Alexandria; many nieces and nephews; and seven granddogs.  Paulvin is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Bertha; infant sister, Bernetta Hertwig; brother-in-law, Roger Hink.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
