Marie Yvonne Hertwig, the daughter of Alfred and Ila (Stigen) Meyer, was born on July 27, 1938, in Taft North Dakota.  Her family moved to the Parkers Prairie area where Marie graduated from high school in 1956.

Marie was united in marriage to Paulvin Hertwig on October 19, 1957, at St. James Lutheran Church in South Effington Township.  The couple made their home in Alexandria; they were blessed with two children, Patricia and Machelle.  The family moved to International Falls for a year and a half, before moving back to Alexandria.  The family was blessed with two more children, Darin and Sandra.  Marie worked as a teacher aide for 19 years at Zion Lutheran School.  She then began working at McDonalds South in Alexandria for 15 years as a cashier, retiring 2014.

Marie was a skilled seamstress.  She made her children clothes when they were young and sewed patches onto law enforcement uniforms.  She even made beautiful wedding dresses and men’s suits for family and friends.  She has always been very crafty.  She refinished furniture, made many crafts and liked embroidery. She also liked to bake and tend to her gardens.

Marie was a brave, kind and amazing mother. Thru all the bumps and trials of the last few years, she stayed positive and happy. She loved her family very much and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
