Lorraine "Lori" W (Martin) Mingus

October 26, 1928 ~ July 30, 2018 (age 89)

.Lorraine “Lori” W. (Martin) Mingus was born on October 26, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Frederick and Gertrude (Gunderson) Martin.  She graduated from Mound High School in Mound, Minnesota.  Lori attended Northwestern College in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota for Interior Design.  She worked as an Administrative Assistant for Eden Publishing in St. Louis, MO before moving back to Minneapolis.  Lori worked at Corporate Management of Control Data Corporation as an Administrative Assistant for 20 years. 

On May 1, 1970, Lori was united in marriage to John Mingus at the Colonial Church of Edina.  The couple moved to Alexandria in 1979.  Lori was involved in developing a pilot mentoring program for young women for District 206 school district and is still currently in operation.    She owned and operated a women’s clothing store on Broadway called Images.  Lori was involved with book study clubs, bible studies, and her church.  She was a former member of the Red Cross and Brush and Pallette Club.  Lori enjoyed painting, gardening, flowers and participating in Winnie the Pooh Parties.  She loved to travel and visited England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Cruises and many places in the United States.  Lori was a gracious hostess and was a tremendous impact on the daughters and grandchildren. 

Lori died on Monday, July 30, 2018, at her home in Alexandria at the age of 89.  She is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Crystal Mingus of Minneapolis, Valerie (Michael) Zumbusch of Buffalo, Jacqueline (James) Wolaver of St. Petersburg, FL, Gale (Paul) Geske of Brooklyn Park, and Luci Mingus of Superior, WI; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Shirley) Martin of Pequot Lakes; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Lori is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Gertrude.

A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM on Friday, August 10, 2018, at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.  The family would like to encourage everyone to wear purple in honor of Lori, as it was her favorite color.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Hospice of Douglas County.
