Laurel William Bruder was born on January 10, 1934, in Clotho, Minnesota, to Michael and Henrietta (Claseman) Bruder. He graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1952. Laurel worked at the creamery in Long Prairie. In 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and served until 1957. Laurel returned to Long Prairie and worked at the creamery for a few years. He moved to Minneapolis where he worked a variety of different jobs.
Laurel was united in marriage to Kathleen Loeffler on June 8, 1963, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville, MN. The couple made their home in Minneapolis and were blessed with a son, Jerome. Laurel worked with MNDOT, taking care of the roads for 25 years before retiring at the age of 65. A few years later the couple moved to Alexandria.
The couple enjoyed going to have coffee and local restaurants, camping and traveling together, and going to dances, concerts and plays. Laurel also enjoyed woodworking.
Laurel died on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at his home at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; son, Jerome (Jan) Bruder of Bellefonte, PA; brother, Jerome Bruder of Long Prairie; sister, Elaine (Gene) Holmquist of Alexandria; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael, and Henrietta; infant brother; sisters, Lila Fredericks, Dorothy Bruder, and Laverne Messer; and bothers-in-law, David Messer and Ardie Fredericks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Entombment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
