Charles Donnley Jacobson

December 3, 1928 ~ June 24, 2018 (age 89)

Charles Donnelly Jacobson, the only child of Arthur and Ruth Emblom Jacobson, was born December 3, 1928, at the Sauk Centre Hospital. He grew up on the Jacobson’s “Arch Grove” farm in Little Sauk, Minnesota. He attended grades one through eight at Kandota Township District 49 and graduated from Sauk Centre High school in 1946. Charles attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, for two years. Then he was needed to help on the farm. He did so until 1954 when, during the Korean conflict, he was drafted into the Army. After basic training he was sent to Germany where he worked as a cook for eighteen months.

He then returned to the family farm until 1969 when the farm was sold. He returned to Gustavus Adolphus College in June of 1972 and earned a bachelor’s degree is sociology. In September of that year, he began working as a Head Start social worker in east central Minnesota and resided in Mora. He continued this work until retirement in 1994.

On August 9, 1975, Charles was married to Eileen Nelson at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota. They lived in Mora until 1995 and then moved to Alexandria. In December of 2017, Charles found it necessary to move into Edgewood Vista; Eileen joined him there after a month. In mid-May Charles’ bone cancer required Hospice care. He passed into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on June 24, 2018.

Charles was an avid reader of Christian literature and newspapers; he recycled endless numbers of pop cans for youth groups and sent the tabs to the Ronald McDonald House.

Charles enjoyed practicing “random acts of kindness” all year long, never expecting any recognition. He enjoyed driving his wife’s great nieces and nephew to sports practices and to school when needed. He liked to garden and happily wrote personal letters to friends and relatives. Charles, also known as Chuck, was a caring husband, a loyal friend, and faithful church member. He was also a Gideon for 64 years and gave Gideon reports in many churches throughout four counties in central Minnesota. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years and by several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
