Bonnie Lee (Garoutte) Morehart

July 4, 1942 ~ November 5, 2018 (age 76)

Bonnie Lee (Garoutte) Morehart, loving mother, sister, and a true friend to many, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the age of seventy-six, after a courageous fourteen month battle with pancreatic cancer. A true firecracker, she was born on the Fourth of July, in 1942, to Harold & Lena (Kuhnau) Garoutte, in Heron Lake, MN. She spent her elementary years in Heron Lake before graduating from high school in Long Prairie. As a young adult Bonnie’s dad died, resulting in her living with her mother for some time. It is during this time that she met Garfield “Gary” Morehart one night at a dance in Nelson. The two were married on June 20, 1970 and the couple then operated a dairy farm in the Nelson area until 1988 when they moved to Alexandria. It was there that Bonnie spent the majority of her life helping Gary, as caretaker and manager of an apartment complex, where they continued to live after they retired. Bonnie was blessed with two daughters, Penny and Beth, who were her pride and joy and a light in her life.

Baking, camping, going to bingo and the casino, and caring for various animals were some of Bonnie’s favorite activities. However, nothing compared to her love of the Minnesota Vikings (SKOL!). She will be remembered for her honesty, good sense of humor, and being strong and fearless in the face of adversity.

Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of forty-six years, Gary; brother, Jim Garoutte; sisters, Lorene Radjl and Betty Hadden, and sister-in-law, Delores Garoutte.

She is survived by her daughters, Penny (Tim) Leavey of Sauk Rapids, MN and Beth (Dave) Walker of Vadnais Heights, MN; grandchildren, Logan and Alyssa Leavey, Ryan and Lindsey Walker; sister, Ruth (Julian) Barsness of Alexandria, and brother, Dean Garoutte of Heron lake, MN.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 PM, followed by the memorial service at 1 PM on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.  Because of her love of animals big and small, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lakes Area Humane Society.
