Rosemary Grundei

ROSEMARY GRUNDEI

Rosemary Miller was born August 9, 1920 in Belle River Township, MN, the daughter of John and Anna (Quinn) Miller. She was raised at Belle River and attended District 62 country school and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1938.

Rosemary worked as a server at Miller's Cottage Inn and participated in hosting the Governor's Fishing Opener for Governor Harold Stassen.

In 1943, Rosemary traveled to San Diego, CA where LeRoy Grundei was serving in the United States Navy. She and LeRoy were married on June 25 and made their home in San Diego. Rosemary took a job in the butcher shop at the A&P Grocery in La Jolla. Following World War II Rosemary and LeRoy returned to Minnesota and began raising their family. They were blessed with four children, Larry, Alan, Neil and Marilyn.

Rosemary and her family moved to the Miller home farm in Belle River in 1954. In 1963 the family moved to Carlos, MN. LeRoy worked as postmaster in Carlos and Rosemary worked for the postal service for about twenty years.

Rosemary was a member of the Church of St. Nicholas at Belle River. She served her church wherever she was needed including her mission circle and serving meals for funerals and weddings among other activities.

Rosemary enjoyed the out of doors. She loved to fish in the summer and winter and she hunted pheasants in her younger years. She kept a large garden and canned much of her produce. Rosemary also liked to go camping and was a member of Good Sam's Camping Club.
Rosemary also liked doing craftwork and excelled at many different crafts. She liked having fun; she could play bingo, any card or dice game and enjoyed trips to the Minnesota casinos and Las Vegas. She and LeRoy also traveled throughout the United States.

Something Rosemary was very proud of was her Irish heritage. She was full blooded Irish.
Rosemary was also a caregiver. She provided care and comfort to many of her family members throughout the years. Rosemary's family was very important to her. She was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

On Wednesday, September 7, 2016, Rosemary died at the age of ninety-six years. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy Grundei, her son, Larry Grundei; and two brothers, Clarence and Cliff Miller. Rosemary is survived by her children, Alan Grundei and wife, Kathy, of Medina, MN, Neil Grundei and wife, Danna, of Chisago City, MN and Marilyn Kosir and husband, Martin, of Blaine, MN; four grandchildren, Tim Grundei and significant other, Tasha Mann, Allison Gustavson and husband, Matt, Travis Kosir and wife, Sarah, and Shane Kosir and wife, Darbi; great grand baby Gustavson, due in November; step-grandchildren, Justi Brown and husband, Doug, and Damon Cross; step-great grandchildren, Dayla Cross, Caleb Brown and Evan Brown; and friend and elder care advocate, Carol Ellison.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Church of St. Nicholas in Belle River. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
