Linda Kaner

October 9, 1958 — June 19, 2016

Linda Ruth Kaner, born on October 9, 1958, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016.

Born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Linda was youngest of three siblings. At the age of ten Linda remembers being moved to the United States where her mother realized her dream of becoming a teacher, an unusual and courageous step for a woman of her generation.

Influenced by her mother's fiery spirit, Linda soon developed a personal set of morals, integrity, directness, stubbornness and independence which was striking to anyone that met her. She was truly a unique soul with particular vision.

Having served as caretaker to her mother, until her passing just a year prior in June 2014, Linda had occasion to reflect on the effect that this strong, often headstrong parent had on her own personality.

She attended Michigan State and graduated with a degree in Agriculture. Moving to Minnesota, she began working for Del Glanzer as an agricultural consultant. Her work took her around the upper Midwest as she visited farms, inspecting and helping farmers make the most of their efforts. As a founding member of the Accreditation Review Panel (ARP) she helped develop the program and served as chair for many years, offering integrity and mentorship in her field. She loved her work and loved being able to work outdoors.
Animals always held a special place in Linda's heart. Her menagerie started with a llama, Fidel, who lived for twenty-five years. To keep Fidel company she got him a sheep, Lenny. Later she added a sheep, Sonja and Lulu, a goat. She kept several other cats and dogs as pets throughout her life; some of her favorite cats were Stan, Mabel and Emma and some of her favorite dogs were Ben, Coco and Sugar. Linda would often bring a radio to the barn and listen with her animals, crediting them with astute commentaries to the programming.
Linda died at the age of fifty-seven. She was preceded in death by her parents; Harry and Wilma (May Meretsky) Kaner and many of her pets. Linda is survived by her partner, Steven Larson of Kensington; her step-mother, Rosemary Kaner of Windsor, Ontario Canada; two brothers, Cem Kaner and wife, Rebecca Fiedler, of Palm Bay, FL and Sam Kaner of San Francisco, CA; many cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and several good friends.
