Donald W. Anderson, age 90, of Alexandria, died on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Bethany Home with his family by his side. Don was born on March 3, 1927, to Harry and Cleo (Berndt) Anderson in Dwight, North Dakota.
He attended school in Dwight through the 8th grade. He then helped on his parents' family farm. At 19 years old he made his choice to serve the Lord and he faithfully served to his death. In 1946, Don enlisted in the Navy. He sustained an injury while in training and received a medical discharge.
On August 15th, 1950, Donald married Dorothy Mae Dake in Howard Lake, Minnesota. After their marriage, he was drafted into the Army and discharged in 1951.
Don farmed for a short time and then worked in the farm implement business. He owned his own business, Anderson Equipment, in Howard Lake for a number of years.
Don and Dorothy spent many happy years in Springfield, Missouri, meeting many new friends. When health issues started arising, their family helped them move to Alexandria, where they had the last several years together.
Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; children: Donna (David) Johnson of Ashby, Donald L. (Patty) Anderson of Isanti, Marlene (Richard) Johnson of Hugo, Patty (Curt) Henderson of Minnetrista; sixteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren – each loved dearly! Don has four siblings: DeLoris Anderson, Mavis Morgan, Harry Jr. (Doris) Anderson, Dwight (Janie) Anderson; very special friends: Melissa & Randy Braund and their family.
Don was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Anderson; parents; daughter-in-law: Kristin Anderson, granddaughter, Alexis (Lexie) Anderson; brother, Elwood Anderson; sister, Elaine Wold; brothers-in-law: Earl Wold and Tom Morgan.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017, 1:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Burr Oak Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
