Signe Krafthefer

January 6, 1928 — April 15, 2015

Signe Lucille (Aho) Krafthefer was born on January 6, 1928 in Alexandria, Minnesota. She was the last born child of 12 girls to Alfred and Hanna (Forsti) Aho, of Finnish decent.

On May 16, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Krafthefer at West Moe Lutheran Church. The couple farmed in both LaGrande and Moe Townships. Signe and Robert were blessed with 3 children; Valdene, Rebecca, and Craig. She worked for many years as a nurse for Dr. Sather, and Dr. Geiser and enjoyed her employment at the Alexandria Clinic.

Grandma Signe always made time for her grandchildren. A pan of caramel rolls or waffles were always waiting for them when they arrived. She took pride in her master gardening skills and was famous for her dill pickles and raspberry jam. Signe’s hobbies later in life included playing cards, especially bingo as she was a very frequent winner.

Signe died on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria with her three children by her side. She was 87 years old. She is survived by daughters, Valdene (Frank) Svezia of Moorhead and Rebecca St. Marie of Fargo, ND; son, Craig (Beth) Krafthefer of Alexandria; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Signe is preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Krafthefer; parents, Alfred and Hanna Aho; and eleven sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend Scott Keehn officiating. Interment will be held at White Garden Cemetery in LaGrande Township.
